Same Like Yesterday Installation
In 2019 ‘Same Like Yesterday – Virkuthalypila and Other Stories from Our Country’ opens at the Art Gallery of South Australia as part of the DreamBIG Children’s Festival.
Same Like Yesterday is a story about six senior Adnyamathanha women and two teenage girls travelling through the Flinders Ranges in the footsteps of Virlkuthalypila, the two women from the Yuramuda (Dreamtime). The project involved SharingStories artists in a longer-term creative practice and allowed for learning through experimentation, creative risk taking & greater capacity for refining & expanding stories that require multiple trips on country to support community reflection & remembering as a group. The final work is a unique form of visual storytelling involving drawing, animation, projection & performance to create a large-scale 3-dimensional projection performance, best described as gigantic paper pop-up books that come to life.
